This is a message that I am passionate about. Yes we all need to make money and hopefully we do something we love, BUT seriously STOP talking about yourself and how great you are! Learn to focus on others and how you can help. Social media is a great place to determine how and where you can help.
Recently I was sitting at a coffee shop next to a conversation that gained my attention. A local business owner is “venting” about how there are all these things wrong with things such as: other business owners – how they dress and talk, local networking groups and how they are run and most importantly how his product is far superior to things like social media and print marketing. He was so focused on himself and his small business he could not take a moment to open the floor to the person he was sitting with.
(Please note that Facebook now has over 955 active users and Twitter has 555 million users. If you start using social media just to sell product I would have to say that is just crazy talk.)
Any social media platform is just that – SOCIAL! This is a place where businesses can build relationships and find out what makes their fans and followers tick. What is it that THEY want to see? What will make them take action and stay engaged? Have you ever gone on a first date and told your date that you plan to start a family with them tomorrow? Most likely that has never happened. So many business owners acquire new fans today and want to push products at them tomorrow. It just makes no sense at all.
I implore you as a business owner to tune in to your local radio station: WIIFM

In response to the Great Commission, Compassion International exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.
I sponsor a child through Compassion and it has been such a blessing corresponding with her on a monthly basis. She draws me pictures and tells me how my sponsorship makes her life so much better. Won’t you consider making a one time donation or sponsoring a child each month? It is the ultimate way to pay it forward.
