There’s no substitute for knowledge and experience as the rider must be able to accurately gauge a horse’s ability. The horse trials consists of three phases – dressage, cross country and stadium jumping, serving as a demanding test of the rider’s competence and showcasing the bond they’ve developed with their equine teammate while schooling and training in preparation for each competition.
