Facebook Tips: Show Your Personality on Facebook

Facebook Tips: Show Your Personality on Facebook

Don’t Be Afraid to Show Your Personality on Facebook

There’s so much more to life than working, don’t you agree? So if you do nothing but post about your business and become a pushy salesperson, you’re not doing yourself justice and your followers will soon get bored and abandon you.

Instead, show them what a well-rounded life you lead and pique their interest with other “lifestyle” type photos and posts.

Sharing parts of your life is just one way to develop a relationship where your audience will get to know, like, and trust you enough to make a purchase. These photos and funny stories will make you appear more approachable so your followers won’t hesitate to send you a message to ask questions about your products.

Here are just a few fun ways to lighten up the mood on Facebook and to increase your engagement with your followers:

Share Your Humor

Did your horse or dog do something funny at the barn this week? Feel free to share it. Did you have a funny conversation with your barn bestie? Share it. Everybody needs a little pick me up during the day and laughing also releases stress.

What are Your Weekend Plans?

Do you have a favorite hangout on Friday nights, other than the wash rack prepping your horse for the weekend show? Or do your Saturday mornings find you at your local Starbucks before show ring prep?

Supporting your favorite local charity by attending their running race or handwriting Christmas cards? I guarantee you’ll get your audience chatting with you, and you’ll bring awareness to your favorite charity or something else fun and interesting. (don’t forget to tag others on your FB page for even more reach!)

Love to Travel? Share Your Favorite Tips and Locations

Do you find yourself traveling to horse shows, expos and other events? Whether you travel for business or strictly for pleasure, sharing your notes of your favorite locations will help others as they plan for their travel. These types of posts are also great for starting conversations about horse show goals, experiences and other horse related chatter.

Even if your customers don’t travel, they can still live vicariously through you! I have had many people tell me they LOVE when I post as I travel.

Share Your Lunchtime View

I hear this all the time, “no one wants to see what I had for lunch”.  I beg to differ!

One of my all time most impactful posts (that made me the most money) was of a picture of me at a coffee shop.  Almost everyone enjoys leaving the office for coffee or lunch, or maybe grabbing lunch in the observation room at your barn, so why not settle in share your view on Facebook.

Even if you’re stuck inside during bad weather, your view can stir up fun conversations. You never know where you will find common ground with your audience! I once posted about how I like to eat my pop tarts and you can’t believe the amount of comments!

Show Them Your Favorite Hobbies

How do you relax after a long day? What pulls at your heart strings and really motivates you to push through your work load so you can enjoy your free time? Hobbies are a wonderful way to engage people in your posts. Show pictures of your barn, your four legged friends, or simply share how you got started in the horse world. If you are like me, you may share pictures of your crazy hens too! #crazychickenlady

These are just a few ideas of what to share online that still shows you’re a real person with a real life. These types of lists are really unlimited in length because you are so uniquely different from every other person in the world. Showcase what makes you YOU; show us your talents outside of your work. Sharing these glimpses into your personality and your life will attract your audience.

Facebook Live: Part 3 – 3 Tips for Better Live Videos

Facebook Live: Part 3 – 3 Tips for Better Live Videos

They’re everywhere. Instagram. YouTube. Facebook.

Live video is clearly the hottest thing since Facebook, and marketers in every niche are taking advantage by hosting their own events.

Some of them are good. They’re well attended, fun to watch, and you feel like you benefitted from attending. But some of them feel like they’re an afterthought, put together at the last minute, and don’t really bring out the best in the host.

If you’re thinking of hosting a live video event, you don’t want to fall into that latter group! Here’s how to avoid it.

Promote, Promote, Promote

On many platforms, a live video event is just a few clicks away. You can literally plan and host a video in just a few minutes, and an impromptu event can be fun.

But with a little planning, you’ll have a much better turnout. And that planning must include promotion.

Let your private groups know about upcoming events. Email your list. Post a blog. Even consider running paid ads for your upcoming video event if there’s the potential to grow your list or increase your sales.

In short, don’t just throw a party without extending invitations to your friends!

Interact with Your Audience

One of the biggest draws of a live video event is the opportunity to interact with the host. Your viewers want to get to know you better. They want to chat with the other participants. They may have questions to ask.

Don’t make the mistake of ignoring them. To do so is to say, “You’re not important to me.”

Instead, take the time to chat up the audience, acknowledge their presence, and answer their questions. Even if it takes you out of the flow and you lose your place momentarily, it’s worth it to make viewers feel respected and as if they’re a part of the event rather than just a passive viewer.

Remember to check the comments later, too. If your video is available for viewing after the live event is over, encourage the conversation in the comments.

Repeat What Works

You have a lot of options when it comes to live video. Periscope, YouTube, Facebook, and others all have their place, and I encourage you to try them all. But in the end, you’ll want to concentrate on what’s working.

If your audience loves Facebook but can’t figure out Instagram or a platform like Periscope, it makes no sense to broadcast there. The same goes for length, topic choices, and day and time of broadcast. You’ll want to test all the variables, track your results, and do more of what’s working.

Here’s what you don’t need to worry about when it comes to live video: Perfection.

No one expects you to look like a cover model or to speak like a news anchor. In fact, if you do look that perfect, it might actually negatively impact your results, simply because your audience loves to feel connected to you. They know they aren’t perfect, and if you can show off your imperfections, it will help create a stronger connection.

The World of Equestrian Sponsorships

March 1, 2017 by yellowbarnmedia Leave a Comment

The World of Equestrian Sponsorships

In the world of equestrians, everyone either has a sponsor or wants a sponsor.

When you think of a ‘Sponsor,’ what comes to mind? Is it free product? It is a financial donation? Is it a tax write off? Is it all of these things?

Sponsorship comes in a few different forms:

An in-kind sponsor is a sponsor who donates a product in exchange for something, typically advertisement. Most of these sponsors will receive an ad in a program, on a banner, or on social media or a website in exchange for their donation. Often times, the more products a sponsor provides, the more benefits they receive from the sponsored rider, organization, horse show, etc.

A financial sponsor is a sponsor who donates money in exchange for particular benefits like advertisement or opportunity. Like an in-kind sponsor, most will receive an ad in a program, on a banner, or on social media or a website in exchange for the donation. In the case of a special event or horse show, a financial sponsor would be provided with premium seating, free drinks, or access to a VIP area, for example.

When I talk about sponsorships, I like to emphasize that sponsorships area a two way street. For example: yes, you may be receiving a $500 pair of designer boots at no cost, however, you still need to earn them by upholding your end of the agreement.

In most sponsorship relationships, there is a written contract between the “sponsor” and the “sponsored” that breaks down what each will provide in exchange for services. For riders, this may be a monthly or quarterly requirement to promote the sponsor on social media and/or wearing the sponsor’s logo at a competition.  For horse shows, this might mean a banner at a specific location, a website ad, and a VIP bracelet.  No matter the agreement, it is very important to make SURE you are fulfilling these requirements.

If you are a sponsored rider or hope to be one someday, here are my top tips for a successful sponsorship.

  1. Schedule your agreement requirements. I highly recommend writing your requirements on a calendar dedicated to sponsorship management. This helps you stay organized and reminds you to complete certain tasks on time, which help keep your sponsor happy.
  2. Share important dates with your sponsor. When you create your upcoming events schedule, send it to your sponsor! Let them know where you will be and when. You can also share it on social media and tag them in the post for them to share, too.
  3. Provide your sponsor with photos. Sponsors love seeing pictures of you wearing their logo, feeding their supplement, using their product, etc. And, if you are required to submit high-resolution photos to your sponsor as part of your agreement, please make sure you do so, even if that means purchasing them from a show photographer.
  4. Thank your sponsor regularly. Call me old fashioned, but nothing takes the place of a handwritten thank you note. Thank them often—especially after you receive new product.
  5. Communicate with your sponsor. If you want to make the most of your sponsorship, talk with your sponsor regularly. They love product feedback and enjoy hearing updates on how you and your horse are doing. They especially love it if you tell them these things and then post a review on social media!

Is your business Super Charged?

September 6, 2011 by socialbutterfly Leave a Comment

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI where this photo was taken.  What a beautiful collection of antique cars and motorcycles on display.  There were so many yellow cars that I just fell in love with (ps – I LOVE yellow!); however, this specific yellow car had the word “Super-Charged” written on the side.

Do you know someone that is having challenges in their business?  Are they discouraged and sitting around like a car with a dead battery.  Will you be the SUPER-CHARGE they need?  Will you be the one to encourage them, offer up new and fresh ideas or the one to wallow with them?

I challenge you today to ALWAYS be the positive charge to those around you.  Continually be someone’s light that very well may be at the end of their tunnel.   Be ready to JUMP at the chance to be someone’s Super-Charged set of jumper cables that will REV up their business!

The rewards are endless.  The stories of success so encouraging, so join with me today and COMMIT to be a SUPER-CHARGER!

Please feel free to share your stories of success on our SUCCESS forum page:  http://www.yellowbarnmedia.com/forum/

Are you “Watch-ing”?

September 1, 2011 by socialbutterfly 1 Comment

Sweet Southern accent. Classy hair style.  Personality as sweet as they come.  This is a brief description of a wonderful family member that we so lovingly refer to as Yellar Janet.  If you are from the south, you may understand that people are occasionally not called by their given name.  It has been over 15 years since I have visited with Yellar Janet and it took just a moment for her to remind me of  a simple business and life lesson.

As she and I walked to the barn to visit my Welsh pony, Sullivan, we shared stories of the past and reminisced.  In the hustle and bustle of cleaning the barn and introducing her to Sullivan, I noticed that she had on a beautiful watch.  I stopped what I was doing and complimented her.  She proceeded to tell me that it was not very expensive and that she had lots of other watches at home.  She immediately asked me if I would like to have the watch.  I grinned and thanked her for her generosity, but informed her that I would not feel right taking her watch.  We continued on, having fun and great conversation, while enjoying the horse’s company.   Once we were back at the house, she approached me again and insisted that I have the watch.  She knew its monetary value was not high, but recognized how much I had admired it and very joyfully gifted me with the watch.

The more I thought about this kind, simple sequence of events I was reminded how important it is in business to never take anything for granted and appreciate the gifts and talents of others.  Always BE the first to give a compliment.  BE that positive person that is always encouraging others.  In everything you do BE genuine and caring.  In almost every business situation, there is the possibility of a trial or a challenge, but if you are the person that continues to BE genuine, caring, kind, encouraging, steadfast and honest YOU WILL BE REWARDED!  Just as seeds are planted in the spring and the harvest is collected in the fall; when you give a compliment or a helping hand you will reap the thing you need the most at the moment you need it most.

That watch was a small token of her love and affection for me, but I will hold it dear to my heart as if it were precious diamonds.  Every time I look at it, I will think of Yellar Janet.  What are you “Watch-ing” today that will have others remembering you and your business?

Have an awesome week and I will be “WATCH-ing” you!

 ~Joyful Jamie
